Hi Graeme,
I’m sending this email to say thank you.
I was having a coffee with my daughter Ellen (name changed) when we noticed an RUOK flyer, and I said her that it was a friend of mine involved in setting up and running the initiative. We took a copy and read it while we waited for our drinks.
We chatted about other things for while and then I asked her if she was okay? She said “no I’m not”. We then discussed her problems for an hour and a half, and it was perhaps the most important conversation I’ve had with her in her 11 years.
Yesterday I had one of the worst days I’ve had in a long time years with a couple of pieces of upsetting news. Last night while I was talking with Ellen she asked me, genuinely, “Are you okay, Dad?” I can’t think of a time that she’s asked me that before, more than casually, and we had another important conversation.
Graeme thank you for the work that you’re doing. It has touched our lives personally.
Regards
James
“I rang about 6 people who I knew had struggled in the past or was currently having struggles in their lives and checked if they were ok. Each one was so touched that I had thought of them and cared enough to call and check on them. One friend I rang and said “R U OK” she said No, and broke down but we spent the next 45 minutes on the phone talking through her issues and coming up with a bit of a plan to action for her to work through. I have never felt such a great feeling of having made a difference in someone’s life.”
